- How does PENTASA work?

The active ingredient in PENTASA is a drug called mesalamine. Each PENTASA capsule contains microspheres containing mesalamine that are released when they reach a patient’s stomach and interact with water. In turn, these microspheres then deliver the medication throughout a patient’s small and large intestine.
- What is the recommended dosage of PENTASA?

The recommended dosage of PENTASA 500-mg capsules is 2 capsules, taken 4 times a day. For patients taking PENTASA 250-mg capsules, the recommended dosage is 4 capsules, taken 4 times daily. Ask your doctor for the best time to take PENTASA each day.
